Women's Lacrosse Travels To California for Santa Barbara Shootout

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (2/13/11) – The University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team will head to southern California next weekend to take part in the 23rd annual Santa Barbara Shootout on Feb. 18-20.

Over the three days of competition, 64 teams from around the country will be playing in 127 games at UC Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara Community College.

This will be Colorado’s first tournament of the season with them playing against No. 18 Florida on Friday, No 16 Pittsburgh and No. 3 Cal Poly on Saturday, and No. 19 Arizona State and San Diego State on Sunday. A live blog of the weekend’s action will be available at www.laxmagazine.com.

The Buffs are ranked seventh in the preseason rankings after a great finish to their season last year. CU finished third in the nation in 2010 after upsetting No. 1 Santa Clara and No. 2 Lindenwood at the national championships.

Last Friday, Colorado participated in a scrimmage with Regis University in preparation for this weekend’s tournament. The Buffs lost 8-7 to the Rangers in a highly penalized game that featured six yellow flags called on CU.

After the Santa Barbara Shootout, Colorado will play at the University of Denver on Feb. 25 before hosting Lindenwood at home on Mar. 12.
