Women's Lacrosse Opens Season Friday at Home versus Regis

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team will begin their 2011 season on Friday against the Regis University Rangers at 4 p.m. at Kittredge Field on the CU-Boulder campus.

There will be plenty of youth on this year’s squad as the roster features a large group of sophomores and only six seniors.

Even though the team may be young, head coach Dan Finck says he likes what his squad is made up of and is expecting the sophomores to play a bigger role on the team this season

“I really like the mix of players we have on this year’s team,” Finck said. “We are a very balanced group and if we can stay on the same page, we will be successful.”

Colorado’s focus this year will be on making another run at a national championship after the team finished third in the nation last season. Nationals this year will be held from May 5-8 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Buffs will make several road trips this season to tournaments around the country, beginning with a trip out west to UC-Santa Barbara on Feb. 18-20 and out east to the University of Georgia on Mar. 24-27. Colorado will also play in Colorado State’s tournament, Apr. 1-3 in Fort Collins.

Colorado will play home games versus Lindenwood on Mar. 12 and UC-Santa Barbara on Apr. 3. CU will play CSU on Apr. 13 in Fort Collins.
