ANAHEIM, Calif. (2/17/11) - The University of Colorado Buff Gold Dance team will be looking for their first national title when they head to the 2011 United Spirit Association Collegiate Championships at the Anaheim Convention Center on Feb. 26-27.
"The Buff Gold Dance team is a dedicated and hard working student organization that competes nationally and performs locally," said senior and team president Tasia Scott, whose been on the team the last four years. "We spend hours fundraising, volunteering, practicing and performing. Preparing for nationals this year has been extremely challenging and at times frustrating, but we continue to stick together and grow as a team after every practice."
For the past three years, the dance team has improved their scores and will look to continue that trend this time around as well.
CU will send 20 girls to nationals who will compete in the categories of open jazz and hip-hop. This will be the first year that the team will compete in multiple numbers and in hip-hop at nationals.
The Buff Gold Dance team is a student run collegiate sport club at the University of Colorado, yet the team is highly dedicated and motivated to their craft, practicing five days a week. They are one of the few teams that go to nationals without an official "standout" coach.
The USA Collegiate Championships will be a chance at redemption for two dancers, Allie Masse and Laura Nass. Masse blew out her knee and Nass injured her ankle in practice while the team was preparing for nationals. Both dancers have worked extremely hard in rehabbing their injuries so they can compete in Anaheim.
Colorado will leave for southern California on Friday Feb. 25.
