Men's Soccer Host MLS Champion Colorado Rapids on Campus

BOULDER (2/2/11) - The 2010 Major League Soccer Cup Champions, the Colorado Rapids, will be on the CU-Boulder campus on Thursday, Feb. 10 to help celebrate championship soccer in the state of Colorado.

The 2010 National Champion CU men's club soccer team will be hosting the event from 12-2 p.m. at the University Memorial Center stage, located across from the Alfred Packer Grill.

"The CU men's club soccer team is proud to host the 2010 MLS Cup Champions here at CU," said CU team president Justin Macauley. "It's a testament to the growth and strength of soccer in Colorado that both the Colorado Rapids and the CU men's club soccer team were able to win the MLS Cup and the NIRSA National Title respectively."

There will be an opportunity for fans and students to get their picture taken with the MLS Cup trophy at the event. Fans are encouraged to bring their own cameras to this free event for the public.

Members from the Colorado Rapids that will be in attendance include Chief Marketing Officer Tim Hinchey, Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo, and Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator Chris Greenley.

The Rapids defeated FC Dallas 2-1 in the championship game on Nov. 21 in Toronto to earn their first ever MLS title while the Buffaloes defeated the University of Missouri 3-1 the day prior in Arizona to win the program's second NIRSA NCCS National Soccer championship.

Both teams will look repeat as champions in 2011 as the Rapids will begin their new season on Mar. 19 while the Buffs start with their title defense in September.
