Swimming and Diving Heads to NCAA Midwestern Championships

OMAHA, Neb. (2/13/11) – The University of Colorado swimming and diving team will send 36 swimmers to the NCAA Midwestern Collegiate Championships on Feb. 16-19 at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

“We are excited for this opportunity to compete at an NCAA championship meet for the second year in a row,” said CU team president Bruce Deakyne. “As strong as the team has been this year, we could see multiple team records fall during the four day event.”

Last year at the NCAA division II meet, the Buffaloes finished fourth in the women’s competition and third in the men’s event.

CU will compete in a total of 104 individual and 15 relay events in Omaha against Minnesota State Mankato, Nebraska Omaha, Morningside, St. Cloud State, and College of St. Mary.

The Buffs have participated in six competitions prior to this week’s meet with their most recent event coming on Jan. 21-23 at the Colorado College Classic in Colorado Springs.

Colorado’s final competition of the year will be the East Coast Championships on Apr. 1-3 in Atlanta, Ga. The Buffs have won four national titles and will be looking for their fifth championship at the ECC’s.

In order to help pay for their trip to Atlanta, CU will hold their biggest fundraiser of the year in the second annual Water Buffalo Stampede 5K on Mar. 12 on the CU campus.
