Women's Lacrosse No. 1 Seed for National Tournament

BOULDER (4/20/11) – The University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team will be the number one seed in the 2011 Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) National Championships.

Colorado will play No. 16 Midland University from Fremont, Neb., in the first round of the National Championships, which will be held on May 4-7 at the Scottsdale Sports Complex in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Buffaloes earned the top seed after going 15-1 this season. CU’s only loss this year came in a 9-6 game with Florida’s club team on Mar. 26. Colorado bounced back after the loss to the Gators and finished the season with seven straight victories.

This is the seventh straight year that Colorado has earned a berth to the national tournament. The Buffs have made three straight final four appearances including finishing as the runner up in 2009. CU has never won the national championship.

The Buffaloes will try to do what in-state rival Colorado State did last year, which is win a championship. The Rams won nationals last season as an 11 seed and will be seeded sixth when the championships begin in two weeks.

Selections for the field were extremely competitive. The selection committee used a variety of criteria to base their decisions including: overall record, record versus ranked teams, won-loss versus common opponents, record versus WCLA teams, quality wins/quality losses, upsets, head-to-head results, conference playoff performance, final conference standings, record for last five games, and more.
