GLENDALE, Colo. (4/17/11) – The University of Colorado men’s rugby team will look to defeat perennial powerhouse Arizona in the Buffaloes’ final regular season match on Saturday Apr. 23 at Infinity Park. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Coming into this past weekend’s matchup with the Wyoming Cowboys, the Buffs were 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the College Premier Division. CU managed to defeat Colorado State 29-3 earlier in the year, but the Buffs have lost their last three matches since beating the Rams. The Arizona Wildcats are also in the midst of a three game losing streak, however despite their recent woes, the Wildcats still have a 7-4 overall record.
Colorado will need all of their young guns to be firing on all cylinders if they want to beat Arizona. Sophomore wing Brendan Cox will need to have a big game as Cox is currently the team’s leading scorer and has limitless potential. Freshmen Ben Shafer, Zach Savage and Mike Sangaline will also need to play well for CU to pull off the upset.
The game will be played at Glendale’s Infinity Park, one of the premier rugby venues in the country. Infinity Park is the home of the Glendale Raptors, the Denver Metro Area’s nationally ranked rugby team. Infinity Park also regularly hosts USA Rugby National Championship matches and will host the College Premier Division Semifinals on May 14.
Tickets to the Buffs final regular season game is $6 and can be bought online at http://www.glendalerugby.com/tickets-and-travel. During checkout, use the code BUFF to support CU men’s rugby. The ticket is good for three rugby matches on the day: the Raptors’ women’s game at 2 p.m., the college game at 4 p.m. and the Raptors’ men’s game at 6 p.m. There will be a tape delay broadcast of CU’s match with Arizona on Root Sports.
