Colorado Loses 4-7 to Lindenwood in First Meeting

BOULDER (01/28/2012) – The No.4 University of Colorado men’s Division II ice hockey team lost to the No.4 Lindenwood University of the Central Division 4-7 on Friday night. This loss dropped Colorado’s record to 18-7-0-1 on the season, while improving on the Lions to 19-4.

Zach Lass, Sam Blass, Chase Komatz and J.P. Park all scored for the Buffs, while Alex Lencioni picked up two assists. Goaltender Mike McGrath made 50 saves on 57 shots.

The Lions took the lead in the first period, scoring midway into the stanza with an assist from behind the net to the slot, resulting in a goal for LU. Both teams held strong defensive fronts for the rest of the stanza, until Lindenwood set up a quick shot from the right corner of the net with only 0:07 left on the clock, ending the period 0-2.

Lindenwood picked up the first goal of the second period 2:43 into the stanza. Colorado quickly retaliated, scoring only seconds after LU with their first goal of the evening. A minute later the Buffs took a shot from the upper left corner of the ice, sliding it past the Lions goalie and into the back of the cage. Aggression built as both teams fought for the lead. With Colorado shorthanded, Lindenwood was able to take control of the ice, scoring on their one-man advantage. The Lions were able to find the back of Colorado’s net once more in the stanza, ending the period 2-5.

Komatz scored 4:37 into the third period, starting off the last stanza. Minutes later Colorado swept past the Lions defenseman, adding an additional tally for the Buffs. With 4-5 on the scoreboard and the Lions in the lead, the Buffs pushed for an additional goal to tie the game. However, Lindenwood pulled through with only five minutes left on the clock, scoring two additional goals
ending the night 4-7 Lions.
