Buffs Fall to Utah State 7-2 to End Road Trip

LOGAN, Utah (01/21/2012) – The No. 4 University of Colorado Division II men’s ice hockey team fell to the No. 2 Utah State Aggies 7-2 Saturday night at the George S. Eccles Ice Arena, snapping their 10 game win streak.

Zach Lass and Chase Komatz both scored for the Buffaloes. The loss dropped Colorado’s season record to 17-6-0-1.

The Aggies took control early with a goal three minutes into the first period. Utah did not let up as they went up 4-1 to end the first stanza. The Aggies continued to pressure the Colorado defense, scoring two additional goals in the second period, while holding the Buffs to a single goal, ending the period 6-2.

The Buffs held the Utah State surging offense to a single goal in the third stanza and concluded their Utah road trip with a 2-1 record.

Buffaloes goaltender Alex Pomerleau saved 5 goals before being replaced by Mike McGrath who picked up 35 saves in the contest.
 
“Playing quality teams teaches us what we need to improve on and how to grow from a loss,” said forward Alex Lencioni. “We will learn from this experience and grow from it.”

Next, the Buffs will look to redeem themselves against Northern Colorado on Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. at the Greeley Ice Haus. The Buffs return home on Jan. 28 when they faceoff against No. 4 Lindenwood University at 7:30 p.m. at the CU Ice Arena. Admission to all Division II games is $3 for students with Buff One Card and $5 for the general public.
