BOULDER (09/10/12) —
The
University of Colorado women soccer teams prepare to go head-to-head with numerous
opponents this weekend as they battle it out in the 11th Annual CU
Women’s Invitational.
Last
weekend, Colorado Gold met up with Colorado State University and beat them 1-0
in a close match. The team went on to play the Colorado School of Mines and
came out on top, with a staggering 7-0 win.
“We have a good combination of young and improved talent over last
year, mixed with some experience and talented senior leadership that has
returned,” said Head Coach Dorian Barnes.
“After only having two practices leading into our first games, I thought we
played very well. We have started with the bar set high based on these early
performances, but with some more training and time together, I hope to see that
bar rise even higher.”
The Colorado Black team fell short with a 2-1 loss to the Colorado
School of Mines on Friday. The team took that loss and ventured out to
Laramie,Wyo. the next day, where they defeated the Cowgirls, 4-0.
“Timing, chemistry and dynamics
of the team are of course not quite there yet with it being so early, but they
did exceed my expectations when they played this weekend,” said Barnes. “They
seem to be a lot closer to where we want to be than I thought we would be at
this point in time in the season.”
The tournament will begin on Thursday, Sept. 13 and continue
throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday, Sept. 16. All games will be held on
the Business, Franklin or Kittredge Fields.
