BOULDER (8/30/11) – The University of Colorado women’s club volleyball’s second annual Buff, Set Smash! grass doubles tournament was a huge success. The tournament raised over $1,300 in funds and 200 people were in attendance. The event was sponsored by more than 20 local businesses that provided over $500 in prizes, giveaways and coupons for players and spectators alike.
The competition in the tournament was fierce, with over twenty-five teams participating. Teams traveled from Colorado Springs and the Denver metro area to compete.
“The competition at this year’s tournament was at a much higher caliber than last year,” said Colorado club women’s volleyball president Kassidi Warnock.
Jeremy Ochoa and Michael Rhodes played terrific, winning the Men’s A pool. Carisa Janzen and Tawna Kjera showed off their skills winning the Women’s A pool. In the coed A pool, Bryce Walsh and Mallory Daneen took home first place while Trevor Miller and Nathan Miller won the men’s BB. Current women’s club volleyball players Olivia Shuss and Holly Shuss won the women’s BB pool. Alison Schmitt and Eric Bowcock won the coed BB pool.
The Buff, Set Smash! tournament was a great start to the teams season. The Buffs hope to have similar success throughout their season as they take on top notch competition from all over the country.
Tryouts for the women’s club volleyball team are Tuesday Sept. 6 and Thursday Sept. 8 in the Upper East Gym located in the Rec Center.
